A pedestrian accident on East South Boulevard in Montgomery claimed one life. The accident on East South Boulevard happened on Sunday, July 11th, at about 1:40 a.m. The Montgomery Police Department is investigating the occurrence and has not released the cause of the accident.
According to a news report, officers with the MPD and paramedics responded at the crash site after a 911 report of an accident involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. It happened in the 2200 block of East South Boulevard. When the police arrived, they found the pedestrian, Tim Williams, a 59-year-old Montgomery resident suffering from life-threatening injuries.
The medics transported him to a local hospital, where he later passed away from his wounds. The MPD said that the driver involved in the accident already left the scene before they arrived. The investigators are actively searching for the driver who fled from the scene. They have asked anyone with information on the accident to contact the police department on the listed line.
A motor vehicle accident happens when least expected and elicits a flight or fight response from those involved. This is why some people flee an accident scene, thereby committing the crime of a hit-and-run. Alabama law greatly frowns at this offense, and offenders face jail time, fines, or both. The punishment is more severe if the other party dies or suffers grievous bodily harm.
In addition to the criminal charges, the hit-and-run driver would likely face a civil lawsuit. The latter could be a personal injury action if the victim survives or a wrongful death lawsuit if the victim dies. Either way, the hit-and-run driver would pay compensation to the victim for the harm suffered.
