Police have taken into custody a man who caused a fatal crash in Tuscaloosa resulting in the death of a mother of two children. The TPD Special Response Team took the suspect into custody around 8 a.m. on Thursday, April 29th. They found him at Red Point Apartments on Hargrove Road after searching for three days.
According to a news report, 28-year-old Jordan Marktice Ricks allegedly caused an accident during a police pursuit. The chase happened on Monday, April 26th, and claimed the life of 42-year-old Homewood resident Robyn Naftel Herring. Following the arrest, the police took the suspect to a local hospital to treat injuries from the occurrence.
The report revealed the Ricks faced a murder charge and leave the scene of an accident. It also disclosed that Herring, a UAB nurse practitioner, was a mother of two girls. The suspect collided with her car while fleeing from Vestavia Hills Police.
Before the chase, the VHP officer pulled the man over near Alford Avenue on Interstate 65 for speeding. After asking for a license and registration, the officer turned to his patrol car to conduct a wanted person check. Ricks then sped away, causing the police to chase him.
When the suspect got to the Lakeshore exit, his vehicle jumped the median near the intersection. It went airborne and crashed into the Jeep Wrangler Herring traveled in. The VHP officer stopped to render aid while Ricks fled the scene on foot into the woods south of Lakeshore. The victim’s two children and a man believed to be her boyfriend were in the car with her at the time of the fatal crash in Tuscaloosa.
